Claims: What To do and Where to go When you Have a Home, Auto or Business Loss

Claims.

We all hope to avoid them, but at some point we are likely to have one. And so, we purchase insurance we hope to never use. Whether it’s your home, business or vehicle, putting in a claim is stressful.

Here at Bright Insurance, we try to make the claims process as painless as possible. We even have a full-time member of our team here to assist you.

Below are the first few things you should do when you need to put in a claim.

Auto

  1. If you’ve been in an accident, see if anyone is hurt. If someone is hurt or you are unsure, call an ambulance and the local Police department.
  2. If you can, pull your vehicle out of traffic to a safe place, park the car, turn it off and put on your hazard lights.
  3. Assess the damage to your vehicle. Take pictures. Also, take pictures of the damage to the other vehicle(s), if possible.
  4. Collect information from the other driver(s) involved in the accident including:
  • Name and contact information
  • Vehicle description (make, model, year)
  • Driver’s license number and plate number
  • Insurance company name and policy number (if they have it)
  • Witness names and phone numbers (if there are any)

After you leave the scene of the accident

Call Bright Insurance to report the claim and start process. If you prefer, contact the insurance company directly. Depending on where the accident took place you may need to fill out a Motor Vehicle Crash Report. Copies of this form can be found in our office or on the Registry’s website.

Homeowner’s

As soon as you notice an issue, contact Bright Insurance, or if you prefer, call the insurance company directly. The longer you wait, the more likely the damage is to get worse and cost more money.

Let them know what the damage is and when you noticed it. They will schedule an adjuster to come out to see the damage and start the claims process.

Business

Many business claims can be handled the same way as a personal lines. If you have a business auto policy, call Bright with all of the vehicles’ personal information and about how the accident happened.

If your business policy is for a brick and mortar store, call with the damage and when the damage happened.
